Private vs. cloud GLP-1 trackers: what actually leaves your phone

Most GLP-1 and peptide apps sync a record to a server by default. What local-only means, six privacy questions to ask before you log, and Vialie’s answers.

In short

A private GLP-1 or peptide tracker keeps your record on your device and does not send it to a server by default. A cloud tracker usually does the opposite: every entry is written to an account, often synced to give you charts, reminders across devices, or a coach feature. Neither approach is automatically wrong, but they are different products with different data flows, and the difference matters more for a GLP-1 or peptide record than for a to-do list, because the record includes brand names, doses your clinician set, injection sites, weight, and photos. Vialie is built local-only in the App Store build: records stay on the device, no account is required, and no tracker context is sent to a Vialie cloud service. iCloud sync is off by default and optional for Plus subscribers through their own iCloud account.

What "syncs to the cloud" actually means

When an app syncs, it is not just backing up a file. It typically means your entries are written to a database the company operates, often to power a web dashboard, a coach or clinician view, or account recovery. That database is a target: for the company’s own analytics, for a breach, for a subpoena, or for a future change of ownership. None of that requires bad intent from the company. It is just what "your data is in our cloud" means in practice.

Is my medication tracker private? Six questions to ask

Ask these before the first entry, not after months of history are already logged somewhere. A private, record-only app should have short, plain answers to all six.

  • 1. Does the app require an account, and can it be used without one?
  • 2. Does it sync to a server by default, and can that be turned off?
  • 3. Who receives the data: the company only, or analytics vendors and "partners" too?
  • 4. Is health data sold, or used to train a model, and is there an opt-out?
  • 5. What happens to your record if you cancel a subscription or delete the app?
  • 6. Can you export your own record, in a format you can actually use elsewhere?

These questions matter more for this category than for a generic productivity list. A GLP-1, peptide, or cosmetic session log can include brand-name medications, doses a clinician set, injection or treatment sites, weight, and photos. That combination is sensitive on its own, and it becomes more sensitive the longer it accumulates in one place under one account.

How Vialie handles it

In the App Store build, Vialie stores your labels, entries, inventory, journal notes, weight, and photos on your iPhone. No Vialie account is required. iCloud sync is off by default; Plus subscribers can turn on private sync through their own iCloud account. Vialie does not send tracker context or photos to a Vialie cloud service. When you want your record somewhere else, you export it yourself as a PDF or CSV with Vialie Plus. Questions

Is my medication tracker private?

Check six things: whether it requires an account, whether it syncs by default, who receives the data, whether health data is sold or used for model training, what happens to your record if you cancel, and whether you can export it. Most of these are usually answerable from the privacy policy.

Is a local-only GLP-1 tracker more private than a cloud one?

Generally yes, because a local-only app has nothing to sync, breach, or subpoena on a remote server. It is not automatically more secure against someone with access to the phone itself, so a device passcode still matters.

Does Vialie require an account to track GLP-1 medications?

No. Vialie works with no account in the App Store build. Records are stored on the device, and a subscription unlocks the app’s features without creating a cloud profile of your entries.

Can I still get my GLP-1 record off my phone if Vialie is local-only?

Yes. With Vialie Plus, Reports builds a PDF or CSV of the date range you choose, on the device. You control the file and share it however you want.

What should I check before using any health tracking app?

Read what the app collects, whether an account is required, whether data syncs by default, who it is shared with, and what happens to your record if you stop using the app or cancel a subscription.
